Quilt Block 8 and a Quilt Show

I have finished block 8 of Amanda Jean's Star Quiltalong.

I am not happy with my selection of the light colored fabric, although it really looks darker than the picture shows. I am not sure if I will redo this one with another fabric choice. Like my daughter, Valerie, who remade her block because of her "too light" color choice on block 5, I may decide to remake this later. As a matter of fact, I am most likely going to redo blocks 2, 3, and 4 in more bold colors. My choices have evolved over the period of time since I began.
I just returned from a couple of days away visiting my friend, Laverne, who lives in Athens, TN. Laverne is working on the quiltalong too, and is doing a great job.
We went to the annual quilt show at the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum. We were blown away at the gorgeous quilts there. They had 3 floors of quilt displays. We saw some absolutely beautiful quilts there of every size and type. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures. We stopped at Hobby Lobby afterward and bought fabric for a quilt we want to do later in the year after we finish the Star Quiltalong. Below is a picture of the fabrics I purchased today.

I am so glad you and Laverne had a great time. I am glad to have you back home though. I love your block. I love your colors. I really love all that fabric though.

The fabrics in your star block are gorgeous, but more contrast will help the star pop, I agree. Great fabric purchase!

I like the colors but I know what you mean about choosing colors and changing your mind. When I was shopping for the beginning piecing class, I had a little help in the store. Later in class, I liked some of the other's choices much better. From now on, I will choose what I like no matter what anyone says. This sampler I'm doing: the clerk in the quiltshop kept telling me I needed green and I told her I didn't like green. I bought it anyway but it isn't being used. i wish I'd stuck to the reds and pinks I wanted. Well, we're learning anyway.
Sounds like a wonderful outing. I like the fabric you bought.

Aren't quilt shows wonderful. Ahhhh.....the possibilities that can come from sewing time.

Don't you just hate it when you finish a block and not like it? Have you tried a design wall to put all the pieces up and look at it from a distance? I find that most helpful. Mine is simply a piece of white flannel and I have caught myself hating blocks so many times.

I think that block looks great! Have you used that same fabric in any other blocks? I like it - but I understand if it looks too light with the other ones.

Wow, I can't wait to see all those new fabrics together in a quilt. That will be gorgeous.

Thanks for visiting my blog.

I like this block, there seems to be a shimmer to the light fabric that makes it stand out from your background fabric. Your quilt is going to be a beauty!

Wow! A quilt show with 3 floors of loveliness to enjoy. That must have been fantastic, especially when you went with a friend. Such experiences are always best when shared with a friend.

I'm curious to see what you will make with the pretty fabrics you bought, Alice Grace.
